The Sulgrave Club is a private club located at 1801 Massachusetts Avenue, N.W., in the Dupont Circle neighborhood of Washington D.C., United States.

History [edit]
Built in 1900 for Herbert and Martha Wadsworth as a winter residence,[2] the building was completed under the name of Wadsworth House.[3] In 1918 the Wadsworths donated the mansion to the Red Cross, who sold it to Mabel Thorp Boardman and a group of women in 1932,[4] for $125,000.[5] The women renamed it the “Sulgrave Club”, a club intended for music, art and social gatherings.[3]
Architecture [edit]
The Sulgrave Club was designed by Frederick H. Brooke[6] in a Beaux-Arts design from the 18th century.[7] It is one of Washington’s first mansions to follow this style of architecture.[8] The house was built of yellow Roman brick and cream terra cotta.[5]
